Blenheim Palace - Terracotta Statues
|
The six terracotta statues that formerly stood on the parapet either side of the North Portico have been conserved. The terracotta was in a fragile state, suffering from multiple fractures and surface decay. Each statue was dismantled into around 200 separate fragments that were then reassembled. |
Moulds were taken from the conserved figures from which new casts were made. The newly cast figures have been reinstated on the parapet – restoring the skyline – and the conserved figures have been given a more sheltered location in the north forecourt colonnade niches. |
